BJJ FOR KIDS
I had the opportunity to capture some amazing action at the ACT BJJ Tournament at the AIS in Canberra. I was extremely impressed with the juniors competing as the focus, strength and discipline that these athletes showed at such a young age was amazing.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a brilliant way for children to socialize, improve their fitness and have fun.
A child who has experience in BJJ will be able to control an attacker and neutralize them in a realistic scenario. They will develop the ability to take an attacker to the ground and control them.
They will also understand how to escape uncomfortable positions or avoid being pinned underneath a bigger and stronger attacker.
The physical and mental advantages of learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are essential to help the kids and adults grow to be more confident in themselves.
One competitor I was impressed with was Hunter Sasikin, an 8 year old from SJJA Brookvale fighting in the Under 27kg division.
Hunter was diagnosed with ADHD and Jiu Jitsu is helping him with focusing and discipline. He has been training in Jiu Jitsu for 3 years now, 6 days a week, sometimes twice a day.
The ACT BJJ Tournament was well run, and all the kids were well looked after by the referees and volunteers.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu may just be one of the very few ways that a child can simultaneously improve their physical attributes at the same time as developing their mind and improving their social skills. However, the benefits that can be attained by meeting and making new long-lasting friendships can be the essence of the sport for children.
Thank you ACT BJJ for letting me capture these amazing action shots. Clicking on each photo or the link below will lead to the albums of the Juniors, Seniors and No Gi events.
