On November 11 and 12 at the QUDOS BANK ARENA in Sydney. Big named Supercross riders like Chad Reed and Jason Anderson will be competing for the Australian Supercross Open title. Chad Reed competing in his home town for possibly the last time.
SETH MARSDEN a young rider from The ACT Motorcycle Club will have the opportunity to race for the first time in the same arena with these big names. Seth was notified only the other day by his family, that he would be accepted to race in the KTM JUNIOR SUPER CROSS CHALLENGE.
Seth is 8 years old and has been riding motorbikes since he was 1. He didn't really start racing until a couple of years ago. Racing in the Nippers class at the beginning of 2016 and had his first race in Div 2 later that year.
AusX selection was based on a number of factors. Seth's age, having at least 1 year of competition experience and an academic participation and achievement report. Seth's principal from St. Gregory's in Queanbeyan provided his most recent school report and a letter to show his progression in school.
Seth will be riding 2 practice sessions and a race on a 2017 KTM 50 SX motorcycle. The 50 is being provided by KTM, as well as a professional pit crew. KTM will also be providing him with a KTM PowerWear riding outfit.
Seth attends weekly coaching and has attended other coaching clinics in the state, including MOSS INSTITUTE OF MOTOCROSS AND SUPERCROSS.
Seth' achievements this year have been
- Canberra, with 1 round left to go he's currently sitting in 2nd place in Div 2 50cc and 2nd place in 7-u9 65cc
- Cooma overall he's placed 1st in both his Div 2 50cc and 7-u9 65cc
- Bega, with 1 round left to go he's currently sitting in 1st place for Div 2 50cc and 4th place in 7-u9 65cc
- Bathurst, raced 1 round there coming 1st place in Div 2 50cc and 3rd place in 7-u9 65cc
Seth also started racing his KTM 65cc this year.
Ken and Rowena Marsden have always supported Seth at home and at the tracks. Ken also rides Motocross on his KTM 450. Ken is always there at every race. Rain, hail or shine and even snow. Always giving Seth advice and encouraging words.
Joshua Bell is another rider from The ACT Motorcycle Club competing that weekend on bike No. 210. Josh raced supercross last year as a junior and finished 6th overall , I asked Josh about his time on the curcuit last year "there were a lot of mistakes in the year but it was a good learning experience".
This year Josh has won All Powers, Opens and Lites at both the Young series and the Wannabrook series. At Aus x open he will be racing his new KTM 450 sxf.
Sponsorship from KTM Australia, KSP off-road, Alpinestar, Troy-lee designs, Willmax graphics, Topline seat covers, Moterex oils, Pirelli tyres, Pro edge mx coaching, odi grips had definitely helped him get to where he is today.
Josh is currently balancing a busy schedule of finishing his Year 12 at Gungahlin College, next year going to University to study teaching. Also trying to do as much gym and track training as he possibly can. Picking up valuable advice from John Prutti, Greg Moss and his closest coach.. Wayne Bell his dad.
Joshua, you are a great rider and a fantastic role model for these up and coming kids.
Seth, this is a massive event and an amazing experience for a young rider.
Good luck to both of you and enjoy the awesome experience.
